Listening to the Shepherd

Sheep know and understand the voice of their shepherd. They can isolate it amidst many voices. They understand and follow the cues of the shepherd, too. They can tell when he wants them to lie down and rest beside quiet waters, get up, standstill, or start their journey to the grazing fields. Other times, they just follow the shepherd from one place to another. When a sheep gets hurt, it stays closer to the shepherd. This kind of communication develops over time.

God desires such a relationship with His children. To understand God, to stay and follow closely enough to know His desire and mode of operation is to be stable and secure in life.

  • God understands you and knows what you need at every moment and stage of life. No day goes by without His drawing your attention to Him as He works to meet your needs. He has all you need.
    • It is easy to miss God’s voice. This leads to frustration, distrust and believing or thinking He does not care about us. The secret is to focus and tune in as we learn to isolate and differentiate His voice from many others.
    • It is easy to overlook God’s voice. Today He may say, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10. However when the doctor gives his diagnosis later in the day, we may believe and act on the doctor’s report with fear without remembering what God said in the morning.

God’s voice is our greatest strength in life. It gives hope and courage. You can face anything however significant when you believe God’s message to you each day.

Our days are filled with eventualities and God does not leave us to grope in darkness without shining His light and giving direction as needed.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27.

Strive to listen to the Shepherd today.
